Privacy & frosted film

Stop people seeing in without losing the light. Frosted, one-way and patterned film for bathrooms, front doors, street-facing windows, meeting rooms and glass partitions.

Three ways to go private

Which one depends on when you need the privacy and how much view you want to keep.

Frosted

Looks like etched or sandblasted glass. Private day and night, lets the light through. The usual pick for bathrooms, front doors and partitions.

One-way mirror

Mirrored from outside in daylight, so you can see out but nobody sees in. At night, with lights on inside, it reverses.

Patterned & gradient

Lines, dots, fades and bands. Privacy at eye level with a clear strip above or below to keep some view.

Logos & lettering

Your logo, room names or a pattern cut into frosted film. Doubles as manifestation on glass doors.

At home

Bathrooms and en-suites with clear glass, front doors and side panels, landing windows that look straight into next door, and bay windows that sit right on the street. Frosted or patterned film sorts all of them and costs far less than replacing the glass with obscure units.

On new-build estates where houses are close together, a frosted band across the lower half of a window keeps the room private and the top half clear for light and sky.

At work

Glass meeting rooms need privacy as well as light. Frosted film, full height or as a band at seated eye level, gives privacy without blocking the light into the rest of the office.

Clear glass doors and partitions also need marking so people can see them. Manifestation can be as simple as two frosted bands or your logo, and helps meet Regulation 14.

Privacy film questions

All questions and answers

Can people see in at night?

Mirrored and tinted films give privacy in daylight because it's brighter outside than in. At night with your lights on, that flips. If you need privacy round the clock, go frosted.

Can you cut our logo into frosted film?

Yes. Logos, bands, patterns and lettering can be cut into frosted film for doors, partitions and windows.

Is window film fitted inside or outside?

Almost always inside, where it's protected from the weather and lasts longest. External films exist for glass we can't reach from inside, and we'll tell you if that's the better option.

Do I need planning permission for window film?

Film fitted inside your windows doesn't usually need planning permission. If your home is listed or in a conservation area with restrictions, check with your council before making changes, film included.

How do I look after it?

Leave it 30 days to settle, then clean with a soft cloth and a drop of washing-up liquid in water. No scourers, blades or ammonia-based cleaners.
